Pricing, Services, and Policies

Quilting Services

I have been quilting for several years and have researched prices from other quilters to keep my prices competitive. Most quilters charge per square inch on a scale depending on the complexity of the quilting. While this can be confusing, I believe it is the best way to ensure fairness to both the customer and the quilter.

The short answer to "How much do you charge?" is anywhere from 1¢ to 3¢ per square inch based on the complexity of the quilting involved on your quilt. Now, here's the explanation: I have several categories and price ranges, and it can look a bit daunting, but I believe this is the most accurate way to charge customers for the amount of work I do as it can vary greatly from quilt to quilt. Make sense? Probably not, but read on to see how I've broken my pricing into categories so that it will hopefully be easier to understand. And, as always, if you have any questions, please contact me. My email address is spinningspoolsquilts@gmail.com

Minimum Fee—$30.00: Quilts totaling less than $30.00 will be billed the minimum.

Category A (All Over)--.01¢ per square inch: This includes basic pantograph-style quilting, one single edge to edge design which ignores any piecing, blocks, or borders on the quilt.

Category B (Borders)—.015¢ per square inch and up: At least two designs: one from edge to edge within the quilt body and separate designs in the borders. Quilts with one border will be billed at .015¢ per square inch and quilts with additional borders will be billed at an extra .0025¢ per border.

Category C (Custom)—.02¢ per square inch: Includes separate designs in multiple borders, blocks, and sashing, posts, etc.

Category D (Designer)—.025¢ per square inch: Stitch-in-the-ditch, ruler work, echoing, individual block designs, and applique detail.

Category H (Heirloom)—.03¢ per square inch: Crosshatch, micro-stipple, background in applique blocks, and other dense quilting.

To estimate the quilting fee, multiply the length by the width of your top (in inches). Then multiply that by the amount charged for the quilting you have selected. Example: a typical crib quilt measures 45” x 60” =2,700 sq. inches x .015¢ (Category B) = $40.50.

Thread: $2.00 per bobbin for solid color thread, $3.00 per bobbin for variegated thread, $4.00 per bobbin for specialty thread. I always use solid color thread unless otherwise requested.

Batting: I have Winline 80/20 batting available for $8.00 per yard. If you want something else, let me know and I will try to get it for you. Or, feel free to bring your own batting at no additional charge.

Binding: I will bind your quilt upon request. I attach binding by machine to the front and finish by hand on the back. Prices are calculated by linear inch. I charge 10¢ per inch (sewn to top only); and 20¢ per inch (finished by hand). Binding preparation is $10.00.

Quilt Preparation and Finish Work

Services such as pressing, seaming, squaring, etc., will be provided at an additional cost of $10.00 per item.

Piecing: I will piece a quilt top of your choosing for $20.00 per hour plus fabric costs and finish according to the quilting and binding prices listed above. Contact me for more information.

Rush Service: If you have an emergency order and I need to arrange my schedule to complete your quilt quickly, I will charge an additional $20.00.

Hanging Sleeves/Labels: I will add a hanging sleeve or label to your quilt for $10.00 per item. Please provide fabric if you want it to match your quilt exactly.

Wait time: Completion times vary according to the number of quilts I have ahead of you. I will do my best to finish your quilt in the estimated time and will contact you to arrange for pick up when your quilt is ready.  If you want to be on my waiting list before you have finished piecing your quilt top, you may call me to secure a place on the list.  If I have not received your quilt when it is your turn, you will lose your place on the list and be placed at the end.  Full payment will be due when you pick up your quilt.

Please note that long arm quilting is a hand guided method not a computerized procedure. Because it is a creative hand-guided method, each stitch, shape, or design will not be identical. Computerized perfection is not guaranteed.

Prices are subject to change without notice.

About . . .

Quilting is good therapy. It all started about 18 years ago when I had two little kiddos running around the house in diapers and spent my days as a stay-at-home mom. I soon discovered that I needed something more interesting than sorting laundry to keep me going. That's when I discovered the joy of quilting. Now, years down the road, I've added another kiddo to the mix. We've said goodbye to diapers and hello to driver's licenses and college (yikes!), and I have many quilts behind me. I now have a studio in my basement with a long-arm machine where I keep myself busy quilting for others and for myself, too, when I get the time. I hope you enjoy looking at what I've been working on!
